Day 18, Year 540 of the Ascendancy

Today there was another one of those noutorious “Full Moon” raids on
OC. However, this full moon fell on a time inconvinient for most
exiles, and as such there were less than 30 exiles in the lands.

So of course, the effort was doomed from the start.

However, 20 or so optimistic exiles(mostly
mystics) gathered in OC, waiting for the door to open. Luckily for us,
the door never did open. People milled about OC, some slept, and others
took to passing the time by falling in Snaggy.

Gradually though, the number of exiles in OC
dwindled, until finally, there were less than a handful of exiles left.
At this point, I decided that there was no way in Adytum that we were
going to take all four of the Orga Camps, and left.

Hopefully, the next OC raid will fall on a time more favorable to most exiles.

Day 19, Year 540 of the Ascendancy

Today was my clan’s monthly meeting, and after the meeting we decided
to hunt on Devil’s Isle, to create a racing route for a Dun’ilsar
Challenge. We explored most of the isle, finding various points that
could be used as landmarks for the race.

After we’d finished charting a course, we looked
for a suitable hunting place on Devil’s Isle. I suggested that we hunt
in the crater, going through the recently discovered McBolie Caverns.

However, our clan’s 5 full pathfinders were unable
to open the path that lead into the caverns, so we were forced to hunt
elsewhere. We cleared out The Pit and the Lava Cave in stride, and
called it a day.

Hopefully next time we will be able to open the path, so we can explore the mysterious crater of the Voolcons.

Day 13, Year 540 of the Ascendancy

I’ve finally taken time to update my scrolls, and I’ve done a little re-organizing as well. The major change now is that the Journal is no more, to be replaced by the “Sketch of the Day”(you’re reading it).

The Sketch will be similar to the journal, except
the entries will be slightly shorter, resulting in more frequent
updates. There will also be an archive of older entries in the Sketch Archive.

So please, enjoy the new format, and continue to visit Lundar’s Library!

Day 8, Year 540 of the Ascendancy

Well, it’s been quite a long time since I last
updated my Journal(two years even!). Many events have transpired in the
long period of time since I recorded my last entry. Indeed, it would
take thousands upon thousands of words to describe all of the things
that have happened to Puddleby, and it would probably take me another
two years to put it down on paper. So I won’t. Instead, I have created
a mural of many of the major happenings that occured in the past two
years. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and I hope
this mural conveys some of the momentous happenings in Puddleby. Of
course I couldn’t possibly fit all of the events of two years into one
mural, so there is still much missing, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

Mural

And there you have it. I’ll probably come up with
another mural soon, to cover all the events that I missed. On a related
note, this will probably be my last journal entry. Right now, I am
planning on scrapping the g in favor of what I call “Sketch of the Day”.
These will be similar to the journal entries I have now, but will be
slightly shorter, resulting in more frequent updates. This will be
found on the main page, and an archive of older entries will probably
be found in the Scrapbook. So please check it out, and continue to visit Lundar’s Library!

Day 253, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

Exploring Fire Island alone is very dangerous. Actually, exploring anywhere
alone is dangerous for Mystics, but I somehow find myself doing it
anyway. And so it was that I was exploring the Fire Island, and as it
were, alone. The southern forests of Fire Island were looking quite
like they usually did: exciting, breath-taking, beautiful, and 100%
fatal. Needless to say, I soon found myself lying flat on my back,
counting the clouds in the sky.

Luckily for me, my clan mate Stryfe was in the
lands, and he soon managed to locate, and raise me. He then gave me a
few sharp words on how a Mystic shouldn’t be travelling on his own, and
I nodded obligatorily, and we went our separate ways. I fell again,
shortly thereafter. Once more Stryfe came to my rescue, and once more
he lectured to me about travelling alone, and once more we went our
separate ways. Once more, I fell. At this point, Stryfe realized that
this was not working out, and decided to tag along with me, so he could
heal me as soon as I fell, instead of having to paddle all the way from
Puddleby.

I owe you one, Stryfe

From the southern forests we travelled slowly
north-wards, taking in all of the many interesting sights. There were
narrow mountain passes, barren plains of ash, mysterious craters, and
countless caves, caverns, and crevices. We passed through all this,
encountering little resistance, but our luck changed when we discovered
a cave to the north, filled with bats and snakes. We quickly fled the
beasts, but they pursued us, even outside the safety of their caves,
and soon, Stryfe and I lay strewn about the rock floor, in the middle
of nowhere. Luckily for us, though, the halfling Iho was in the area,
and he had us back on our feet in no time. And so ended our exploration
of the Fire Island.

Day 211, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

Well, there is not much new to report today. The
truth is nothing out of the ordinary happened, no strange invasions, no
weird occurrences, no mysterious contacts from Beyond. However, I did
manage to become a fourth sparkle pathfinder. There I stood, in the
third sparkle chamber, staring earnestly at the solid slab of rock
before me. I went through the confusing lessons of the Marsh Hermit,
over and over in my head, ’til I felt that I was going insane.
Suddenly, upon the rock, I saw a crack, then a foothold, and before I
knew it, I had found a way over the impassable stone. I stood there for
a while, in the fourth sparkle room, looking about me, unbelieving.
Then, I silently congratulated myself on my accomplishment.

Wahoo!!!

The rest of the day, really was uneventful. I
hunted for a while on Dal’Noth Isle, making quite a few coins from the
chests of Xar’Noth’s and their like. Afterwards, I tagged along on a
hunt in the New North Forest, in which we all got massacred a couple
times, but were eventually rescued. I got to explore the forest quite a
bit, and afterwards, my purse was quite heavy from the coins garnered
from furs. Of course, there was only one way for me to spend all this
new found wealth. Yep, you guessed it, the casino. And as it turned
out, the Golden Butterfly gained many a pretty coin this day.

Damn it!

Day 191, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

“Old exiles never die, they just fade away…”
Such was the case with my skin dye, and I was understandably miffed.
Just a month and a half ago, I had doled out 600 coins for my black
skin dye, and had been told that it would last for “months”, and here I
was, just forty-five days later, and my skin dye was nearly all gone.
The dye did not fade off my skin completely, but left a dark-brown
residue, that made me look as if I were ill. Little did I know, that
the status of my complexion was about to improve. As I milled about
town, complaining about my ill fate, I was asked by the ‘Zo Arocet, to
open up Dal’Noth Isle. I happily complied, and I was even invited to
join in on their hunt. And so it began, one of the greatest money
making hunts of my life.

The party that I travelled with was one of the
smallest Dal parties I had ever seen. The party consisted of only four
members: Arocet, Cygnus, Klur, and myself. At first, I was a bit
skeptical that a party of four could survive long on Dal’Noth,
especially when one of those four was a Mystic. However, I soon found
that my doubts were ill-placed, as ‘Noth after ‘Noth fell before us.
And the coins, oh yes, the coins. As we traversed Dal’Noth Isle, and
slaughtered ‘Noth after ‘Noth, we received the countless bounties
placed upon their heads. Particularly profitable were the Xar’Noths, a
new type of ‘Noth that looks like a Sar, but wears blue robes. The
Xar’Noths are not worth much when it comes to bounties, but those that
carry chests can be worth as much as 200 coins. That comes out to fifty
coins, divided out evenly among us. My purse was quickly filled in no
time.

Cha-Ching!

We swiftly cleared out the Dal’Noth Town, and
proceeded to clear out the monsters out of the north-western part of
the isle. After we were done with that, my path-finding skills came in
handy, as we explored the Dal’Noth Outpost. All went off without a
hitch, until we exited the outpost, and found ourselves surrounded by a
legion of ‘Noths and Dews. I was quickly felled, and Arocet and Cygnus
followed shortly thereafter, and only Klur remained alive. Luckily,
Klur had in his possession a chain, and he skilfully tied us into a
bundle, and dragged us off to the Dal’Noth Town to heal safely. We
hunted for a little while more after that, before returning to
Puddleby. I had made several hundred coins, in a little over an hour of
hunting.

Later, I was to return to Dal’Noth Isle. A small
party of exiles had been massacred by a Xar’Noth on Dal’Noth Isle, and
I was called to let the rescue party in. The rescue went off quite
smoothly, and the Xar’Noth was quickly put in it’s place. We hunted in
the Dal’Noth Town for a short while afterwards, and I added even more
coins to my already bulging purse. Returning to town, I decided it was
time for a new dye to cover up my faded old one. This time, I decided
on the gray skin dye, which cost a whooping 450 coins. Boy, I really am
living quite a decadent lifestyle as of late. Hopefully this skin dye
will last longer than the last one. For now, I am stylin.

New Island Discovered

Day 184, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

The 137th Chaos Storm had passed, and there was
nothing new, or so it seemed. The Brewery remained closed, the Mirrors
were still impassible, and the weird hut on Centaur Isle still wouldn’t
open. Go figure. However, I soon learned different. Whilst listening to
the sunstone, I heard much hubbub about a new island off the west coast
of Puddleby, called Fire Island. I quickly ran to the docks, rented
myself a rowboat, and headed for the isle.

I entered the isle from the northern side, and
quickly paddled my way to the shore. It appeared that the entire
north-western coast of Fire Island was marsh, and I had much trouble
tying down my boat. I soon found myself exploring several snells of
marsh, wondering to myself why the isle wasn’t called “Marsh” Island,
instead of “Fire” Island. That was when I stepped though a pf path, and
found myself in Orion’s Forest. I was shocked that there could be a
path leading from Fire Island to the Centaur Isle, which was nowhere
near the Fire Island at all. I wandered through Orion’s Forest, looking
for the exit, but I could not find it. The forest was filled with many
deadly monsters, and I soon found myself running for my life. I was
felled shortly thereafter.

Fallen on Fire Island

Luckily for me, my clan mate Stryfe was in the
area, and I was back on my feet in no time. Stryfe related to me that I
was not in Orion’s Wood, but that I was still on Fire Island, in a
forest that looked like Orion’s. I bade my clan mate thanks,
and continued my exploration. After wandering through the forest for a
while, I finally made it out into an open space. A great wide plain lay
before me, with the ocean to the east, and nothing much else but grass,
as far as the eye could see. I put my weapons in my pack, and began a
nice, leisurely jog down the plains. I soon found that the plains were
not as flat as I first thought. The “plains” were actually rolling
hills, that gave the illusion of being flat. Many objects that I could
not see from afar became more apparent as I crested each hill: strange
markings in the grass, dark, foreboding towers, and several abandoned
huts.

As I explored the endless plains, I ran across the
Mystic Aki, and the sylvan Babajaga. Though I had not yet met any
beasts upon the plains, I was relieved to have company. Together, we
explored the rest of the plains, and several snells of forest to the
south-east. Aki explained to me how the isle was approximately seven by
eight snells, or fifty-six snells total, making it nearly the size of
Puddleby! We explored the isle for a bit, and decided to examine the
towers we had seen earlier in our journey. We returned to the plains,
and found that there were two dark towers, vertically aligned with each
other. I decided to explore the northern one, while Aki would examine
the one to the south.

Strange Tower

We soon found, however, that the southern tower
was un-enterable, and we both ended up exploring the northern one. The
interior of the tower was very peculiar, composed of some dark,
unidentifiable material. Strangely, the tower was not composed of
multiple floors, but a single floor, with the rest of the tower being
open space. Traversing through the tower was like taking a stroll
through Purgatory, and at first, Aki and I had trouble discovering the
exit. However, we eventually did find the exit, and we returned to
exploring the isle. Soon, however, a Darshak invasion force swept over
Puddleby, and we returned to our home isle to combat the pirates, who
were headed by their much feared elite.

After the invasion, I returned to Fire Island, and
had many an adventure. My mystic location powers really came in handy
on Fire Island, for the isle was large, and many parties became lost,
separated, and fallen in obscure places. It is simply impossible to put
into words how vast the Fire Island is. In addition to it’s fifty-six
snells worth of land mass, there are countless caves, tunnels, and
crevaces, which will definitely take a long time to explore fully.

Lost in the Underbrush

And if that’s not enough exploring for you,
another vast area has been discovered, this one on Puddleby. A
previously undiscovered path in the North Forest has been found, which
leads to a new area, which has been dubbed the “New North Forest” or
NNF. NNF is also quite large, and a new bear cave has been discovered
there, in addition to a strange beach, with lizards that have the
ability to make exiles drunk. This Chaos Storm has definitely opened up
many avenues for exploration. It will be some time, I predict, before
exiles will begin complaining that there is nowhere new to explore.

Day 176, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

Today the hybrid fen’neko Slinky, and the lovely
sylvan Kartan, were wed together in the Temple of Falinea. Here is a
brief log of some of the proceedings:

Slyph: “Friends, as a circle stands for Life, let us form a circle
ourselves, around these two… as exiles thrown upon a violent shore,
we reach to each other in times of sorrow and pain. And in times of
joy. I have walked this land for four years now and have watched Slinky
patiently wait for his joy… Kartan. Kartan and Slinky have come
together today to marry, one bright, gleaming day among many that
aren’t quite so happy… in defiance, they join.”

(Slyph unfolds a small red ribbon)

Slyph: “Kartan, do you take this fen’neko? To have and to hold and kiss and hug etc?”

Kartan: “I do”

Slyph: “And Slinky, do you take Kartan, simply because you’d be a fool not to? To love her always?”

Slinky: “I do.”

Slyph: “Join hands then..”

(Slyph softly entwines the ribbon about paw and hand)

Slyph: “I am the Foxweir Knight. In this garden hear me now- they are married.”

Slinky's Wedding

After the proceedings went off without a hitch(well almost), we all
went to the wedding chapel, and Slinky and Kartan received their
marriage license. There was much celebration afterwards, and three kegs
of beer were brought to the chapel for consumption. We all became
merrily drunk, and we had a real fun time. Beeeer!!!… I mean Grudos!!!! to Slinky and Kartan on their wedding!
