A Very Long Rescue

Posted on December 21, 2003 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Day 281, Year 552

Today I got involved in a rescue to the Drake Den that ended up taking
hours. It all started when a Fire Drake appeared in town, and kidnapped
several exiles to its lair of Devil’s Isle. My clanmates decided to
mount a rescue, and joined a hastily assembled rescue party and headed
to McBolie’s Cavern, which leads deep into the crater of Devil’s Isle.
Big mistake.

In McBolies

One thing quickly became apparent to me as soon as we entered
the cavern: Large Disorganized Party + Devil’s Island = Disaster. It
took our party forever just to reach the end of the maze-like cavern,
and I was forced to depart when I opened the path into the crater, only
to have nobody follow me in. And that was just the start of our
troubles.

In the Crater

Once we reached the inner crater of Devil’s Isle, things became
a lot more difficult. The crater of DI requires the most precise
coordination– which our party lacked. It took us four tries and one
depart until we finally reached the volcano of Devil’s Isle. By then,
our party had been reduced to five exiles– Yazza, Vequalir, Kor’gah,
J’dy, and myself, and we nearly gave up.

However, a smaller party was exactly what we needed. With our
reduced numbers we were able to coordinate much better, and we were
able to cut through a horde of Lava Walkers to reach the Drake Den.
There, we were able to raise the fallen exiles, and slay the foul Fire
Drake, thanks to SnowLion’s awesome prowess with the Blood Blade.

Slaying the Drake

We had finally accomplished what we had come for, but leaving
the crater turned out to be no less difficult than getting there in the
first place. While trying to find our way out, we found ourselves in a
tight spot, trapped by a group of Lava Walkers. Only a few of us
survived the encounter, and the rest of us were chained off of the
isle. Still, we all managed to make it back to town, bringing to close
our long but exciting adventure.

Day 252, Year 552

There was mixed news at the clan meeting today. On the one hand Sasha’s ELF sponsored Skinning Contest
was a great success, but on ther other hand we lost one of our most
beloved members when Anfyr handed in her clan symbol. Anfyr(or rather
Drrnh, as she is calling herself these days) took leave of our clan to
explore her Fen’neko heritage. We hope she will return to us soon.

However, though our clan lost one of our most treasured trees,
we also gained some new growth as well. The Mouser joined our clan
today as a new hopeful, and Pel was inducted into our clan as a full
member. With two new members scheduled to join us next week, it looks
like there is still much growth left in this sylvan forest! F’nom
grudos to our two newest members!

New Member Pel

After the meeting we headed to Melabrion’s Island for some
sasquatch hunting. We ran into some trouble with several GCP spawns and
had to regroup several times, but otherwise had few problems. The
highlight of our day was a battle with a very angry Mother Sasquatch.
We had several close calls with the sasquatch, but in the end we were
able to teach her some anger management, sylvan style.

A Long Overdue Update

Posted on December 7, 2003 in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Day 224, Year 552

Well, I’m finally updating my journal after a long break(thanks to Himitsu and Farhope for prodding me into action).

So why has it taken so long for me to update my journal? Well, mainly I
just haven’t witnessed anything really interesting in the lands of
late. Taking a look at my most recent entries, they’re all about my
clan’s affairs, and we recently created a scroll for our clan’s activities, and that’s become my new outlet for clan related news.

In fact, I was actually thinking about scrapping my scrolls entirely, and just posting news items directly to Thoomcare, but considering Paramedic’s bandwidth issues, I may reconsider, considering the verbosity of my posts.

Anyway…

Meshra Invasion

Today I *did* get a chance to participate in an unusual event in the form of a Meshra invasion.
The invasion didn’t last too long, but the fish-folk did take control
of southern Puddleby for a time with the aid of powerful Blood Meshra
and Deep Meshra. After clearing the Meshra from Puddleby, we took the
fight to the Meshra Den, and finished off the last remenants of their
invading army.

After the invasion had concluded, I headed back to town for a
quick nap before my clan’s monthly meeting. We had a good turnout at
the meeting, where our clanmate Anfyr gave us some surprising and
joyous news: she was getting married to the Fen Baltok after the
meeting! We headed to the wedding chapel after a quick hunt in ‘Noids.
The sevice was attended by a handful of Anfyr and Baltok’s close
friends, including Yazza’s goat.

After the wedding service, everyone headed to the Puddleby Park to
celebrate with some food and drink. There was much rejoicing, and Fist
of Fluff gave a rousing toast to the newlywed couple.

Joint Hunt With SDC

Day 343, Year 550

Today I got to attend my clan’s much anticipated joint clan hunt with
the Sun Dragon Clan. SDC and ELF have a long history of working
together, and our tradition of hunting together dates back to the days
of the Ripture Wars and beyond, so it was nice to see our clans hunting
together once more, renewing old ties.

Joint SDC Hunt

After discussing the merits of various hunting grounds, our clans
settled on hunting on Melabrion’s Isle. Our hunt began by clearing the
beaches of wendies, then we promptly moved onto Melabrion’s Keep,
bringing down Mud Golems with a combination of smart tactics and
teamwork.

New Hunting Styles

After a quick tour of the Keep, we decided to move our hunt to
Melabrion’s Mines, in search of the elusive gold ore. However, we ran
into a spot of trouble when we grew overconfident in our abilities, and
decided to throw out tactics in favor of a mob-style rush. While
heading east towards the snake pit, we ran into a larger than expected
group of Tok’Han and cobras, and before we knew it, most of our party
was lying fallen on the ground. In short, it was a massacre(or a
mil’asanti, as we sylvans like to call it).

Luckily, a number of skilled chainers from both clans managed
to make it to the safe cave, and were able to muster a daring rescue.
In the end we all managed to make it out of the Mines in one piece,
though we didn’t get the chance to search for the gold ore. Still, the
hunt(and the rescue!) was a great success, and I hope to be able to
hunt again with SDC in the near future.

Newbielympics

Day 338, Year 550

The Newbielymics
competition was kick-offed today with the Openning Ceremonies held in
the Bard’s Field. The Newbielympics is a series of friendly contests
for new exiles hosted by the Winds of Dawn Clan,
and is open to all exiles who have yet to teach the rank of “Lord” or
“Lady”. This was the second such competition to be held in Puddleby,
following the successful innagural event, which was held in the Autumn
of 547.

Opening Cremeonies

Following the Opening Ceremonies, Bob the Archer of WoD held the
Trivia Contest, the first event of the zodiac long competition. Dragan,
Roffian, Shay, Vandergoth, Vusun, and Yesod entered the contest, to
answer a total of 45 mind-numbing trivia questions over the course of
three rounds. The winner of the event was Shay, who correctly answered
28 questions, and took home the prize of 750 coins. The next
Newbielympics event is the Hide and Seek competition, to be held on the
72nd of Autumn.

Wood Carving

Day 303, Year 550

The builder Sah Bleyd announced today the completion of Poly Carver’s
woodworking shop in East Forest. Inside the small workshop Poly teaches
exiles how to make various woodworks, including shields, clubs,
barrels, and brooms. No word yet on what brooms might be useful
for(besides the obvious), though I suspect that the witch Prue would
know what to do with one.

Dark Cloud

Day 285, Year 550

There seem to be a lot of new things cropping up in the lands lately,
and you can hardly keep your back turned before something new pops up.
Case in point: I was recently holed up in the library for a couple
days, and when I came out, the mirror in south forest had opened!…
well, sort of. It seems the mirror now leads to some mysterious dark
cloud up in the skies of Puddleby.

Today I got to take a look at this new cloud, along with my
clanmates from, ELF. First, however, we made a stop by the clan house
and inducted Nip the Warrior as a full-fledged member of our clan!
Welcome to the clan Nip!

Afterwards, we headed into a twinkling portal in Falinea’s Garden
and into the enchanted cloud. The inside of the cloud is mostly forest,
with a group of mountains to the east. The forests are quite dangerous,
with maha ruknees and summer artaks in great abundance. The mountain
passes are inhabited by wendeckas, with snow ferals and polar bears at
higher elevations.

The suface of the cloud is quite big, and spans rougly 20 snells.
Rescues on the cloud can be quite tricky, as there is something strange
about the geography of the cloud which plays havok with the skristal.
Luckily, the explorer Sagramor has created a map of the cloud, which
can be found here here for exiles who may find themselves lost.

One word of warning to anyone thinking about visiting the cloud.
Walking off the edge of the cloud can be extremely dangerous, and is
not recommended by the Thoomcare Surgeon General. Careless exiles may
suddenly find themselves lying in a smoking crater in the landmass
below.

Ethereal Portal

Day 221, Year 550

The portal to the Ethereal Plane, which the ‘Brions agreed to build as part of the trade
for six teleportation stones, is now apparently complete. The portal
resides in a hut which is located in the northeast corner of the island
which the ‘Brions have created.

Ethereal Portal
The Ethereal Portal

The portal leads to a semi-protected enclosure on the fourth sphere
of the Ethereal Plane as promised. However, the portal does not appear
to be two-way as expected. While this doesn’t pose too much of a
problem if the portal is used in conjunction with a portal stone,
hopefully this matter can still be resolved with the ‘Brions.

Melabrion has begun distribution of the seven portal keys to
the Mystics who helped secure the trade. Once all of the keys have been
received, we will decide how best to distribute them to responsible
holders.
