New Island Discovered

Day 184, Year 538 of the Ascendancy

The 137th Chaos Storm had passed, and there was
nothing new, or so it seemed. The Brewery remained closed, the Mirrors
were still impassible, and the weird hut on Centaur Isle still wouldn’t
open. Go figure. However, I soon learned different. Whilst listening to
the sunstone, I heard much hubbub about a new island off the west coast
of Puddleby, called Fire Island. I quickly ran to the docks, rented
myself a rowboat, and headed for the isle.

I entered the isle from the northern side, and
quickly paddled my way to the shore. It appeared that the entire
north-western coast of Fire Island was marsh, and I had much trouble
tying down my boat. I soon found myself exploring several snells of
marsh, wondering to myself why the isle wasn’t called “Marsh” Island,
instead of “Fire” Island. That was when I stepped though a pf path, and
found myself in Orion’s Forest. I was shocked that there could be a
path leading from Fire Island to the Centaur Isle, which was nowhere
near the Fire Island at all. I wandered through Orion’s Forest, looking
for the exit, but I could not find it. The forest was filled with many
deadly monsters, and I soon found myself running for my life. I was
felled shortly thereafter.

Fallen on Fire Island

Luckily for me, my clan mate Stryfe was in the
area, and I was back on my feet in no time. Stryfe related to me that I
was not in Orion’s Wood, but that I was still on Fire Island, in a
forest that looked like Orion’s. I bade my clan mate thanks,
and continued my exploration. After wandering through the forest for a
while, I finally made it out into an open space. A great wide plain lay
before me, with the ocean to the east, and nothing much else but grass,
as far as the eye could see. I put my weapons in my pack, and began a
nice, leisurely jog down the plains. I soon found that the plains were
not as flat as I first thought. The “plains” were actually rolling
hills, that gave the illusion of being flat. Many objects that I could
not see from afar became more apparent as I crested each hill: strange
markings in the grass, dark, foreboding towers, and several abandoned
huts.

As I explored the endless plains, I ran across the
Mystic Aki, and the sylvan Babajaga. Though I had not yet met any
beasts upon the plains, I was relieved to have company. Together, we
explored the rest of the plains, and several snells of forest to the
south-east. Aki explained to me how the isle was approximately seven by
eight snells, or fifty-six snells total, making it nearly the size of
Puddleby! We explored the isle for a bit, and decided to examine the
towers we had seen earlier in our journey. We returned to the plains,
and found that there were two dark towers, vertically aligned with each
other. I decided to explore the northern one, while Aki would examine
the one to the south.

Strange Tower

We soon found, however, that the southern tower
was un-enterable, and we both ended up exploring the northern one. The
interior of the tower was very peculiar, composed of some dark,
unidentifiable material. Strangely, the tower was not composed of
multiple floors, but a single floor, with the rest of the tower being
open space. Traversing through the tower was like taking a stroll
through Purgatory, and at first, Aki and I had trouble discovering the
exit. However, we eventually did find the exit, and we returned to
exploring the isle. Soon, however, a Darshak invasion force swept over
Puddleby, and we returned to our home isle to combat the pirates, who
were headed by their much feared elite.

After the invasion, I returned to Fire Island, and
had many an adventure. My mystic location powers really came in handy
on Fire Island, for the isle was large, and many parties became lost,
separated, and fallen in obscure places. It is simply impossible to put
into words how vast the Fire Island is. In addition to it’s fifty-six
snells worth of land mass, there are countless caves, tunnels, and
crevaces, which will definitely take a long time to explore fully.

Lost in the Underbrush

And if that’s not enough exploring for you,
another vast area has been discovered, this one on Puddleby. A
previously undiscovered path in the North Forest has been found, which
leads to a new area, which has been dubbed the “New North Forest” or
NNF. NNF is also quite large, and a new bear cave has been discovered
there, in addition to a strange beach, with lizards that have the
ability to make exiles drunk. This Chaos Storm has definitely opened up
many avenues for exploration. It will be some time, I predict, before
exiles will begin complaining that there is nowhere new to explore.
