Nearly Savaged
Posted on February 3, 2004 in UncategorizedI stepped out of the library today just for a quick breath of fresh air, but ended up having quite an adventure. It all began when I was contacted by the halfling Shrub, who was interested in speaking with Savage. Now Savage is perhaps one of the most ferocious Fens in the whole of Puddleby, not at all known for his friendly conversations. Still, I was a bit curious myself, and ended up agreeing to help locate him.
Locating Savage, however, turned out to be more difficult than I had anticipated. Being generally used to locating dead people, who tend to stay put, trying to keep up with Savage proved to be quite a challenge. Savage led us on quite a chase, through the Hive and the Puddleby underground, and eventually through the South Forest and the Marsh.
After about half an hour of chasing after Savage, Shrub and I realized that we probably weren’t going to catch up with him. Calling it a good chase, we decided to head back to town. However, as we were making our way back to Puddleby, Savage began to link his spirit with mine. Was this a challenge, we wondered, or an invitation to meet with him? We decided to find out. Little did we realize we were being led into a trap…
Renewed in our quest, we redoubled our efforts to locate Savage. This time, however, his location didn’t change– almost as if he were waiting for us. We easily tracked down Savage to the mirror in South Forest, where we learned, too late, that he had collected a contigent of cougars and panthers. I tried my best to run away, but fell. Luckily, Shrub was able get me on his chain, and pull me into the Thoomcare hospital.
Just as Shrub began to heal me, however, Savage burst in and wrapped me up in his chain! Before either of us could do anything, Savage began towing me eastwards, towards the Marsh. Savage managed to get me far– to the very edge of the South Forest, but luckily Shrub was able to catch up with us, and was able to untangle me from the chain, right before Savage slipped into the Marsh.
So ended our adventurous search for Savage, an adventure which almost ended in disaster. We never did get to speak with Savage, or find out if he even knows how to speak(he mostly communicates in growls). It is still unknown how this enigmatic figure came to Puddleby, or why, or what he wants, but one thing is for certain– this is one Fen not to be trifled with!
